La Choza del Mundo has a physical live and work space on 25 acres of land in a culturally rich region of rural Costa Rica. Many scientists believe this is the most bio-diverse region in the world. Surrounded by primary rain forest and two kilometers from the entrance to La Cangreja National Park, the community of La Choza is the fifth family in Concepcion, Costa Rica. The Choza is 35 kilometers from Parrita on the Pacific Ocean and 60 kilometers from the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose.
The Land
The property is a steep and hilly piece of land that was previously used for cattle grazing. The house sits at the top of the property, next to the road. As you walk down the land, there are several hilltops from which you have views of the neighboring hillsides and the ocean ahead.
Trails and Waterfalls
The trail here will take you down into dense trees and lush rain forest. First you cross a river, where the trail splits. Off to the left, the trail takes you on a switchback down to a small swimming hole. Upriver from this point, there is a long, thin waterfall about 50 meters in height.
Local Community
La Choza del Mundo is located on the road between Mastatal (6 kilometers) and Zapaton (7 kilometers), two kilometers past the entrance to La Cangreja National Park. Zapaton is a town of approximately 125 families and recently designated as an indigenous town in Costa Rica. Mastatal has approximately 20 families and is also is home to the local cantina. Each of the three towns, of course, all have a school and football pitch.
